DivorceEnding a marriage is one of the most difficult experiences a person can go through. As an attorney, my job is to ease this process as much as possible, while seeking to obtain a fair and adequate outcome. When children are involved, they are always the primary concern, and where appropriate I will fight to ensure my clients have the visitation or custody they and their children deserve. Everyone contemplating divorce should consult with an attorney to discuss the various aspects of the process, from child support and maintenance (commonly called alimony), to property division, and parenting and residential time with children. My focus is always on facilitating agreement where possible, and on bringing the parties together by reasonable compromise and creative solutions. Where litigation is necessary, either to obtain a reasonable outcome or to forestall exorbitant requests or claims by the other party, I work hard to ensure my clients are treated fairly and effectively throughout. I am also pleased to offer counseling and representation in court for agreed, amicable divorces, where appropriate. Paternity and ParentageUnmarried parents have the same rights and responsibilities of parenthood as married ones. In the modern era, paternity is generally quite simple to establish through genetic testing, but questions as to custody and visitation are often complicated. Likewise, establishing an appropriate child support payment is of fundamental importance. If you are seeking to establish parentage, or defending against a State-instituted action to establish child support payments, I provide sound advice and counsel as well as effective representation in court proceedings. Property AgreementsAnyone contemplating marriage should consider entering into a pre-nuptial agreement concerning property and income. Such an agreement can range from a simple document protecting a family heirloom, to a comprehensive arrangement to maintain financial independence between spouses. Likewise, those contemplating dissolving their marriage may wish to enter into a post-nuptial agreement to provide for a mutually agreeable division of assets. |
