Personal Injury

Where someone has been injured in an automobile or other accident because of the negligence of another, often they must sue that person in tort to recover their damages.  Insurance companies may be unwilling to reasonably settle such claims until an attorney has been retained by the injured party.  Even then, litigation may be necessary for recovery.  Whether you have been injured by another, or are seeking to defend such a claim against yourself, experienced and knowledgeable legal counsel is of paramount importance.  Such counsel must include both informed legal advice, and also sound analysis of the cost/benefit and risk/reward considerations.  Finally, I provide compassionate and aggressive representation where appropriate.

Contracts and Contract Disputes

Our ability to contract, and rely on contracted promises by others, is fundamental to our society.  If you are contemplating forming a set of legally enforceable promises with another, advice on a contract or drafting of one by an attorney can avoid substantial costs over disputes.  If another person has breached a contract with you, or if you are anticipating breaching or have been accused of doing so, only an attorney can provide competent advice both as to liability and potential damages.  Whether through mediation, arbitration, or litigation in court, my focus is on obtaining the best results possible while always considering the cost-benefit aspect of decisions.

Landlord and Tenant Disputes

The interests of a land-owner in protecting their property and deriving rental income from it, and the interests of tenants in keeping a roof over their head, often stand in stark contrast.  I assist landlords with the eviction process, and focus on ending tenancies with compassion and efficiency, to safeguard the property and ensure the fastest possible restoration of possession.  I also assist tenants who feel they are being wrongly evicted, or who have other substantial disputes with their landlord.

I am also an active volunteer with Snohomish County Legal Services, and the Housing Justice Project.  If you are a low-income tenant facing eviction, you are encouraged to visit the link below, or to seek out Housing Justice at the Snohomish County Courthouse, 1st floor, Tuesday and Wednesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Property Transactions and Disputes

Whether transferring title or resolving a boundary dispute, there are few places the law is more formal or ancient than concerning real property.  I provide counseling and preparation of necessary documents for sales, installment contracts or rent-to-own instruments, and also lesser estates such as leases and easements.  I also practice in real property litigation, including boundary adjustments, adverse possession, and title disputes.  An attorney must be mindful that people often have emotional attachment to their property well beyond its economic value.
